After months of waiting, I recently finally found myself at the grand opening of a new Lindt Boutique in the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. I will give you a little bit of a story behind how bizarre that particular day unfolded. It did not start off to well but that is okay, the end outcome was a success. I have been patiently waiting for months for this outlet to finally open its doors, moping around during construction many times over, even when it was prohibited, but I could not help myself. The façade of this outdoor shopping centre is so beautiful, and to top it off, these army of stores are situated right near the Vancouver airport. To be exact, about a ten minute walk from the airport. The planes fly so close to the ground, literally right above the outlet, making it a very special place to be. Seriously, I love watching planes in general, that is actually an understating, maybe I am a little bit obsessed with airplanes since I want to go at the airport every single weekend, and watch them fly off into the sky. What can I say, it is very close to my heart for some reason. That is a perfect day for me, plane viewing and then to have this gorgeous outlet which reminds me of Switzerland and Germany so close by, well, it cannot get any better. Anyhow, here is the brief version of the story. On grand opening day, I assumed that if I left my home at around 9:00 am, I would be at the outlet exactly by 10:00 am, and perhaps one of the first individuals there. I thought that I can shop around, go to Lindt and pick up some chocolates, perhaps stop for coffee, have a nice and relaxing day. This was how I imagined it, calm, quiet, and mellow. Wow, was I ever wrong. I was driving down a main street called Granville to get to the outlet at approximately 9:30 am, and started to question what is the deal with this insane heavy traffic? Little did I know that this ridiculous traffic was due to the grand opening of “MY” outlet, the one that I have been eyeing for over one year. I saw this outlet being built from the ground up, when it was completely raw, to when the facades were built up, to the stores coming to life, to when it all came together perfectly. I was there almost every single weekend to watch it grow. Going back to the story, I patiently waited with the rest of the traffic, and assumed that it would eventually ease up. I was diligent to film the opening day of Lindt, I just had to. It would not be the same on the second day. Once I finally got closer to the outlet, I realized that there was no way I would be able to park, run inside Lindt, film, purchase my goodies, and make it back home in time for a phone conference. My plans changed as you can see. So long relaxing strolling and coffee drinking at the outlet. I now only needed Lindt. Traffic was backed up and heavily congested. Seriously, how, why, how, why. I guess I was not the only one intrigued with being there on the first day. I was not very happy since at that point, I decided to turn around and make a second trip back in the evening time, when things might have settled down a tiny bit. I managed to be home in time for my conference, went about my day, and in the evening, at around 5:00 pm, made my way back to the outlet. It was still insanely busy, but I had more time. Nothing to rush back home to. I later found out from the news that people missed their flights due to the heavy traffic for the Grand Opening of this outlet. That is a bit outrageous. Even one of the courier companies extended their cut-off time by half-an-hour. Have you ever heard of such a thing? It is as though the president was there or some huge catastrophe. People must have seen the beauty in this outlet just the same way that I did, or perhaps they just wanted to shop. No shame in anything. When I finally did manage to push myself through to Lindt, I was like an animal. Grabbing items, making my way from side to side, back and forth to all sorts of chocolates, nobody was getting in my way, not this time around. That is when I picked up this new item by Lindt, the White Chocolate Bar with Vanilla. Oh Yes, it is now MINE. Here I was on opening day, hands full of chocolates, just ready to test and review while other people were a little bit on the conservative side, and had just one or two bars at the checkout counter. What a waste of everything, oh well, more for me. I then needed a cart. I was getting into greed mode. I am a chocolate blogger after all, what can I say? Being greedy comes with the job, who wouldn’t be? I hope you chocolate monsters out there appreciate my hard work and dedication in getting my hands on this chocolate bar, during GRAND OPENING DAY that is. My wild side came out and it was not pretty. I had to in order for me to purchase this. You are all welcome. Off to the review now. This is purely a white chocolate bar, and the vanilla is from Madagascar. Sounds fancy right! It actually does not have any cocoa mass, just cocoa butter. I like the subtle flavour of this bar, it is in a way, very naïve, innocent, nothing is “robust.” The hint of vanilla is what makes this bar unique. It is expected to taste like white chocolate, but the vanilla flavour brings in a pleasant surprise. The bar is not overly sweet, and melts quite well in my mouth, leaving behind a beautiful aroma, almost like a flower. I paired this chocolate with coffee, and I must say that it was delish. There is no bitterness or a stale aftertaste. I reached for more. Yeahh, that is a positive. The texture is sophisticated enough to serve your guests at the next ballroom party. No disappointing words will come out of anyone’s mouth, just a fragrant trace of vanilla. I am very pleased with this new creation and appreciate its simplicity.
