ROLO BARRead Now
History lesson everyone. Rolo is actually pronounced “Row-low” for all of you English obsessed individuals out there, and it is a kind of cone or frustum-shaped chocolate filled with caramel. The first Rolo was manufactured in the United Kingdom by Mackintosh’s in the year 1937. At that time, Rolo was manufactured under Nestle, but in the United States of America, production continued under the Hershey Company as of 1969. There have been many variations of the Rolo Bar such as biscuits, ice cream, muffins, cakes, desserts, doughnuts, mini Rolos, and big Rolos, yogurts, and Easter eggs. All of the sweets sound delicious however, I am certain that most are loaded with all sorts of chemically infused ingredients, ones that I will most likely not be able to pronounce, let alone digest on a regular basis.
In 2011, McDonald’s combined a chocolate infused caramel sauce with their McFlurry ice creams. This McFlurry is pushing 500 calories. For that amount of calories, I can instead eat so many other yummilisious foods that are also very nutritious such as mangoes, raspberries, bananas, veggies with hummus, cauliflower based pizza, avocados, etc. Remember, not all calories are created equal. I am able to consume 3000 calories on a daily basis of just fruit/veggies, and even though I am over my daily caloric amount, I will not gain a single pound as most of the fruits and veggies are absorbed by the body for nutrients, and the end waste by-product is excreted. There is no fat in fruit or enough protein to slow down the metabolism. It is all digested quickly. Nothing sits and rots in the stomach. How nice is that? Okay, enough now with all this medical/nutrition teaching unless of course, you all appreciate it. If that is the case, please leave a comment in the comment section below. I take everything into consideration, and would be more than happy to educate you all on topics as such if anyone is interested. However, for now, let's get on with the review, who needs to be taught a lesson in nutrition 101? Well, actually, everybody. Nutrition is imperative. It is what keeps us healthy, and thriving strong on a daily basis. What you choose to put in your mouth will make or break your daily energy, even the brain is affected. If you eat a hamburger for example, it just sits in the stomach from the high protein content. In addition, the bread surrounding the hamburger is a bad carb which goes straight to your thighs. Most importantly thought, if the bread is white, the glycemic levels in the human body will increase fairly quick. Booo hooo. All of this will rob you of your energy, and cause brain fog. Nobody wants to feel like a mindless puppet running around. Let’s delve back into the same scenario, but this time instead, lets opt for 1000 calories worth of fruit, nature's goodness. Well, the outcome is that you will feel light as a feather. Very alert, energetic, neurons in the brain will be sparking, getting things done. No tired souls here. Okay, what is it with me today and all this advice. “Come on Soriah, get on with the review, we are all waiting” is what I can just see everybody thinking. I heard ya, your wish is my command.
The cocoa in the Rolo bar is not even the first ingredient on the list. Sugar is makes the top, followed by glucose, and then modified milk ingredients, cocoa butter and lastly, the main act of the show which should have been listed first, the cocoa mass. The list then continues with all sorts of interesting oils. Yuck, double yuck. Seriously, this does not only taste horrible, but the employees at Rolo had the nerve to introduce such disgusting ingredients. Shame on you! I have a very bad aftertaste that does not want to go away. This is beyond a sugar infestation. It is as though I just ate a pound of sweetener, the bad kind, but then again all sugar is bad, unless of course, it comes from a natural source, something Mother Nature created herself. I almost feel intoxicated with pure revulsion. For years, Rolo's marketing has been with the following slogan “Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?” Okay, you all know my answer to this, yes, please, take my last Rolo. As a matter of fact, I beg you to take the whole bar, or two or three. This might be one of my lowest rated chocolates so far. I am speechless, something that does not happen often. Goodbye Rolo, never to be seen again, not on my kitchen counter at least.
